The Edo State Police Command says it arrested 45 suspects linked to various violent crimes and rescued 38 kidnap victims in June 2026 as part of intensified operations to rid the state of criminal elements.
The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, disclosed this on Friday during the Command’s end-of-month press briefing in Benin City, where he reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to protecting lives and property through intelligence-led policing and stronger collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders.
Agbonika said the Command sustained aggressive operations against kidnappers, cultists, armed robbers and other violent criminals throughout the month, noting that the coordinated efforts had continued to produce significant results across the state.
According to him, a total of 45 suspects were arrested for various offences during the period under review. The arrests, he said, included 32 suspected kidnappers, 15 suspected cultists, three suspected armed robbers, 11 murder suspects, two suspects for unlawful possession of firearms, and 14 suspects linked to rape and defilement cases.
The Police Commissioner added that intelligence-driven operations and coordinated tactical responses also led to the successful rescue of 38 kidnapped victims from different locations across Edo State.
He described the achievements as evidence of the Command’s unwavering determination to confront violent crime, stressing that criminal elements would continue to face sustained pressure from security operatives.
Agbonika attributed the successes recorded to the professionalism and dedication of officers of the Edo State Police Command, as well as the effective collaboration with sister security agencies and the support of residents.
He commended law-abiding citizens for providing timely information and intelligence that aided police operations, describing security as a collective responsibility that requires active public participation.
The Commissioner also praised other security agencies, vigilante groups, hunters, and members of the Community Safety Partnership for complementing the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force through effective inter-agency cooperation.
He assured residents that the Command would intensify intelligence gathering, sustain aggressive operations against criminal elements, and strengthen community policing to ensure that every lawful resident can live and conduct legitimate business without fear.
Agbonika reiterated the commitment of the Command to making Edo one of the safest states in the country, adding that the police would continue working with all stakeholders to create a secure environment capable of attracting tourism and investment.
